Abstract |
The investigation revealed that, of the six independent variables, three variables affected the miscarriage rate of Karen migrant women at a high level. They included family size, health problems, and working conditions. The other three variables; education, smoking and length of stay, did not affect the rate of miscarriage. Women from small families, with health problems, especially headaches, and working women were among those with a higher rate of miscarriage.
Recommendations from the investigation to reduce miscarriage rates included improving living conditions of Karen migrant women, providing knowledge of pregnancy and birth and suitable medical services to women of reproductive age, giving vocational opportunities to these women in order for them to have constructive activities and to meet their needs in improving their diet, and to provide educational and communication information to these women, particularly on reproductive growth and on quitting smoking (pp. iv, 60-66)
