Abstract |
The investigation examined social changes of the Akha ethnic group at Pha Mee Village, Tambon Phang Kham, Mae Suay District, Chiang Rai Province. The study findings revealed that the changes were due to both external and internal factors. The external factors included better transportation routes and infrastructure in the village, making the ethnic group adjust their mentalities, attitudes and social values. As a consequence, certain traditions and customs were neglected or disappeared for the sake of modern changing trends. The internal factors influencing the changes were the roles of community leaders, the wealthy, and the educated. These individuals were usually respectful and trusted, and these changes were also due to the development processes of the government. Therefore, the adjustment of the ethnic group was undertaken in order to be on a par with the changes.
