Abstract |
The thesis investigates conventional Phuom culture along with culture they have assimilated from the mainstream as well as the Phuan’s opinions about their assimilated culture and factors promoting better cultural assimilation. The author interviewed 255 Phuan ethnic individuals from the total population of 5,000. It is found that individuals with higher levels of education were more easily assimilated than those with less education. Those with fluent Thai and those who are traditionally conservative tended to be easily assimilated. The factors promoting better cultural assimilation included reading newspapers, listening to the radio, and interacting with external society.
