Abstract |
The thesis findings revealed that settlements of the immigrants and the assimilation process were influenced by the history and by specific aspects of the area in MaeHongSonProvince. These aspects brought about networks of the immigrants, which were regarded as a support system and a source of comfort within the host society. Consequently, settlement and assimilation into the host society were undertaken more thoroughly than other cases. This phenomenon explained the reason for future migrations, and the maintenance and creation of migration systems to the area. It was evident that villagers viewed and responded to the influx of immigrants with different attitudes to those of the government. Future studies should analyze the migration phenomenon from the local perspectives.
