Abstract |
From the Thai historical and political contexts, there had been several political upheavals and bloody uprisings. These political struggles are becoming deep rooted and democracy has been blossoming. When this democratic mentality spreads to rural areas or ethnic groups, their political demands are expressed through protests and tree ordination. Tree ordination is a political ritual bringing about political changes at the community level. Protests provide villagers with more access to state power and rights of citizenship. In the mean time, the tree ordination ritual is an expression of selves, being a part of Thai-ness and Buddhism, and being a community in the Thai nation state via the tree ordination for His Majesty the King.
