Abstract |
The research involved 80 Vietnamese families in Samsen Community with 55 families providing complete data. There were 27 hypotheses in this investigation but only nine were accepted. They included the fact that conventional family is monogamous. The traditional family is monogamous as is the modern family. Modern family members select their own partners. Modern families give equal inheritance to sons and daughters. Traditional family members marry Christians. Modern family members marry non-Christians. Modern family members married to non-Vietnamese. Modern families have fewer children. Factors contributing to the success of Vietnamese families might include having better social capitals, such as better economic, educational and social status, having fewer children and success-oriented values.
