Abstract |
This qualitative and quantitative study investigated 400 registered Burmese laborers in Chiang Rai, Tak and Ranong Provinces in order to develop a cross-cultural communication model and other mass media affecting the level of adaptation of these transnational people by examining communication factors both in Thailand and in Burma. It is found that the factors having a positive influence on the forms of adaptation included demographic characteristics, communication capability in Thai society and attitude toward Thai people. High exposure to Burmese media resulted in a low level of adaptation to Thai society. Communication in Thai society, mass media utilization behavior and demographic characteristics also had an indirect positive influence on the level of adaptation of these people.
