Abstract |
The population in this research was 102 Skaw Karen at two villages in Mae Sa Riang District of Mae Hong Son Province. A questionnaire was used to collect the data and mean, chi-square, Gamma, and Kramer V were used to analyze the data. The basic independent variables were gender, age, income and proficiency in Thai language. Three theoretical independent variables were constructed, including similarity to, interaction with and the understanding of other societies. The three variables were called integrated variables. Dependent variables, success of integration enabling the hilltribe to feel that they were Thai citizens, included loyalty to Thai society, trust in Thai society and acceptance of Thai culture and beliefs. It was found from the research that age, income and proficiency in Thai language were related to the integrated variables and Thai citizenship, whereas gender was not. The three theoretical independent variables were related to Thai citizenship.
