Abstract |
The authors surveyed and recorded supplementary and alternative careers of 94 Urak Lawoi ethnic residents in Sapam Village in Tambon Koh Kaew, Laem Tukkae Village in Tambon Rasada, and Rawai Village in Tambon Rawai, Muang District, Puket Province. It was found that most of the ethnic people wanted to engage in fishing. For supplementary careers, their problem was education because they were illiterate, so they did not have self-confidence. There was also lack of coordination and mutual trust as there had been rampant corruption in their communities. Furthermore, there was a bias of outsiders toward the ethnic people.
