Abstract |
The objective of this research was to investigate the adaptation aspects of the Phuan ethnic group. In terms of the dynamics and adaptation in education, it was found that some important factors for change were composed of the use of information technology to receive information and popular trends, as well as the compulsory education curricula with Standard Thai as a medium of instruction and communication. Moreover, the ethnic culture was developed to create distinct activities or new products in an attempt to adapt to current areal contexts. Ethnic stories were publicized until they had become another cultural attraction. As for the ethnic maintenance, it was revealed that the ethnic group perceives and is aware of their ethnicity, and that their ancestors migrated from Laos into Thailand. They have created and maintained their ethnic identity by forming into groups in order to carry out activities through their networks at the village and to national levels.
