Abstract |
This work chronicled Tai Yai traditions, society and culture from the past to the present. According to ethnic legends, the Tai Yai used to be powerful and prosperous. When the Chinese encountered political difficulties, they used to take refuge in their kingdom. It was said that their undertakings were in the form of donation and city names were similar. It was also their rightful sovereignty. Their political relationships with the Chinese, Burmese and Lanna in the past were both good and bad. When the relationships were good, they were involved in trade. When they were bad, fighting took place with both sides winning and defeating each other at various times. Most Tai Yai in Thailand reside in Khun Yuam and Muang districts in Mae Hong Son province. The Tai Yai residents continue to maintain their traditions and culture.
