The book compiles knowledge and presents anecdotes about the Black Tai or Song Dam or Lao Song ethnic group in various perspectives of their livelihood amidst socio-cultural changes. The changes include language, lifestyle, beliefs, traditions, rituals, and religions. It is found that Phu Tai or Black Tai are the same ethnic group but are called differently in different places. In Muang Thaen, the ethnic group is called Phu Tai. However, when they migrated into Siam, they were called various names, such as Tai Dam, Tai Song Dam, Song, or Lao Song. Nevertheless, whatever they are called, they are consciously and unanimously known as “Phu Tai”.
